Situation

We were hired to review the information systems operation of this 1500 person company, something we routinely do in our consulting practice. As the review progressed we found that the majority of the VPs in the company were in conflict with IS over service and software issues. They wanted the VP of IS fired "yesterday".

Actions Taken

We offered to withdraw, in order not to embarrass the VP of IS, but he requested that we proceed. The emphasis was placed on restoring a productive working relationship between IS and the rest of the company. We developed findings and recommendations, presenting them to the executive staff of the company. These included the development of a strategic plan for IS and a new methodology for working with the system users.

Results Obtained

The client developed a strategic plan for IS and new service methodologies (with some assistance from us). These were put in place in time to save the IS department and turn around the deteriorating situation. They have been recently cited in ComputerWorld and other publications as a leading edge technology company.
